Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). The Apple Tree. Group of 28 pieces set design artwork. 22 set design sketches and prints on acetate, some mounted on tracing paper, mostly for Eden set; 2 mixed media pieces, waterfall and Tonawanda Hill; gouache on paper, Apple Tree, with notation "orig gouache ‘exploratory’ painting (attempt to find visual style)"; 3 sheets of Eden sketches, pen and ink on paper, one with notation across the bottom "set piece for Adam & Eve section of ‘The Apple Tree’ — eventually unused & used instead in John Lennon’s ‘In His Own Write’ – National Theatre". Apple Tree gouache 22 1/4" x 14 1/4". All as is and in production used condition. Created by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of The Apple Tree, Sam S. Shubert Theatre, 1966-1967. Tony Walton was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Costume Design for The Apple Tree in 1967, and the show was nominated for Best Musical the same year.
