Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). Conversation Piece. Group of set design artwork and blueprints. 5 pieces original scenic design artwork, mixed media with gouache and acrylic, 2 on illustration board and 3 on paper mounted on illustration board, Ballroom and both Melanie’s Room with United Scenic Artists Local 829 stamp with Tony Walton’s signature, others unsigned, Melanie’s Room 20 5/8" x 23 3/8". With a set of 10 stage layout blueprint drawings labeled Sheet 2-11, all with USAL stamps and signed by Tony Walton; and a collection of additional artwork, including an onion skin sketchbook with original rough sketches for set designs dated 56 / 57 (most pages detached from book). With a window card / poster for the show, also designed by Tony Walton. All as is and in production used condition. Created by Tony Walton for the off-Broadway production of Noel Coward’s Conversation Piece, Barbizon Plaza Theatre, New York, 1957. This was Tony Walton’s first scenic design job in New York and came shortly after he was admitted into the United Scenic Artists union.
