Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). Leader of the Pack. 3 portfolios of set and poster design materials, including original artwork, photos, prints, research and reference materials. Portfolio 1: Set design artwork, with 10 original backdrops, including Party Streamers gouache on black illustration board, Blam! and Pow! collage and marker on black illustration boards, radio print, Hanky Panky car photo collage and copy with additional notations, Heavy Metal Guitar collage (with 2 photos of the same image), Filigree Heart Hanger collage with photo, piano hanger, record collage; all except piano with additional handwritten notations on mounts; streamers 25 3/4" x 17 3/4", with 8 printed polka dot sections, mirrored section for model back wall, back wall color swatches, and 6 original sketches on tracing paper for the poster design. Portfolio 2: Chapel of Love research and reference materials, including wedding cake photos and wedding cards. Portfolio 3: Poster design research and reference materials, including 50+ reference photos mounted in 4 manila folders, manila folder with photocopies and 70+ photos of record labels, manila folder with photos and photocopies for "poses" reference and one collage piece for the poster design (torn at neck). All as is and in production used condition. Created and compiled by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of Leader of the Pack, Ambassador Theatre, 1985. Leader of the Pack was nominated for the Tony Award for best Musical in 1985.
