Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). Guys and Dolls. 17 pieces set design artwork. 2 pieces original artwork, mixed media on black illustration board, sewer arch and Save-A-Soul Mission sign (interior). Guys scrim, print, with hand painting, handwritten notations on the mount and initialed TW and dated 92 in gold ink. With 11 mounted prints, many with additional handwritten notations: 2 deck elevations, 5 scrim paint elevations, sewer with attached color swatches, sepia scrim (Paper Mill), black and white show scrim and a photograph of the same image (Paper Mill); and 3 Broadway / Runyonland art prints, numbered in pencil 185, 186, 187 from the edition of 200. Sewer arch 22" x 27 1/2" including mount, Guys scrim 18 5/8" x 25 5/8" including mount. All as is and in production used condition. Created by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of Guys and Dolls, Martin Beck Theatre, 1992-1995; the national tour, 1992-1994; and the regional theater production at the Paper Mill Playhouse, Millburn, New Jersey, 2004. Tony Walton won a Tony Award for Scenic Design for the Broadway production in 1992, and the show and its cast and crew won several other awards, including the Tony for Best Revival the same year.
