Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). Guys and Dolls. Portfolio containing 13 numbered manila folders with 150+ sketches and technical drawings, notes and other papers. Folder 1: 21 sketches, scene-by-scene and other elements, pencil and blue ink on tracing paper. Folder 2: 46 sketches, pencil and ink on tracing paper, and 3 additional photocopied pages, various scenic design elements. Folder 3: 19 sketches, lettering and other elements, pencil on tracing paper; and 16 sheets of copies of sketches, mostly lettering. Folder 4: 17 sketches on tracing paper, mostly lettering and signs, pencil and in on tracing paper. Folder 5: 14 technical drawings, sepia ink on tracing paper; and 19 copies of technical drawings. Folder 6: 45 technical drawings and copies. Folder 7: 5 hot box sketches, pencil on tracing paper. Folder 8: 23 scene-by-scene sketches, blue ink on tracing paper, many with handwritten notations. Folder 9: copies of technical drawings and other papers. Folder 10: 5 technical drawings, pencil on tracing paper. Folder 11: Sheet of photocopied sketches for newstand magazine covers. Folders 12 and 13: handwritten, typed and copied notes and other papers. Scene-by-scene sketches (folder 1) sheets 9" x 12". All as is and in production used condition. Created by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of Guys and Dolls, Martin Beck Theatre, 1992-1995. Tony Walton won a Tony Award for Scenic Design for Broadway production in 1992, and the show and its cast and crew won several other awards, including the Tony for Best Revival the same year.
