Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). The Importance of Being Earnest. 3 portfolios of costume and set design artwork, sketches, notes, photos, reference materials and other papers. Portfolio 1: 24 color prints and 10 smaller color prints of costume design artwork, many duplicates, larger mounted; 16 original costume design sketches, pencil on tracing paper; The Importance of Being Earnest window card poster with handwritten inscription "Thanks so very much, yet again, Dan, for your wondrous work on the above – I’m so very lucky to have you by my side. All love & hugs Tony W.", a collage copy of the poster and two additional color copies. Portfolio 2: folder containing 4 original pencil on tracing paper set design sketches and 8 copies of the same images; backdrop collage and 2 larger prints of the same image; bag of carpet and fabric samples; 11 folders containing sketches, notes, copies and reference materials for characters and costumes. Portfolio 3: 3 folders containing handwritten and typed notes, sketches. All as is and in production used condition. Created and compiled by Tony Walton for the off-Broadway production of The Importance of Being Earnest, Irish Repertory Theatre, 1996. Tony Walton designed the sets, costumes, and poster, in addition to directing the show.
