Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). Uncle Vanya. Group of costume design prints, notes and reference materials. 30+ sepia line copies and 9 color prints of the original costume design artwork. Various characters, including Vanya (Derek Jacobi), Serebryakov (Brian Murray), Waffles [Telegin] (David Patrick Kelley), Maria Vasilyevna (Rita Gam), Selena (Laura Linney) and Sonya (Amy Ryan), and 4 additional color copies of Tony Walton’s costume sketches from the 1973 production. With a folder of handwritten and copied notes on lined paper, and a folder containing copies of reference materials, a manila envelope of fabric swatches with handwritten notations throughout, and 8 photos of Brian Murray as Serebryakov. Created by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of Uncle Vanya, Roundabout Theatre Company, Brooks Atkinson Theatre (now the Lena Horne Theatre), 2000. Tony Walton designed both the sets and costumes for the show, after doing the same for the 1973 production. He was nominated for a Tony Award for scenic design in 2000, and several members of the cast were also nominated for awards that same year.
