Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). Uncle Vanya. Portfolio of notes, sketches and other papers for the production and poster design. Manila envelope with 19 pages of copied technical drawings, a folder of research materials, 5 folders containing papers related to the production including copies of set designs and rehearsal notes, a folder of Tony Walton’s handwritten production notes, an envelope of photos for set construction reference, a folder of set dressing photos, 4 set design prints, envelopes and folders containing 30+ original pencil sketches and many copies of various set design elements, a folder of woodwork reference materials, and a group of chandelier and clock reference photos; and a portfolio of poster design elements, with collage pieces, hand painted lettering on acetate, prints of the poster. Largest poster 16 1/2" x 12". All as is and in production used condition. Created by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of Uncle Vanya, Roundabout Theatre Company, Brooks Atkinson Theatre (now the Lena Horne Theatre), 2000. Tony Walton designed both the sets and costumes for the show, after doing the same for the 1973 production. He was nominated for a Tony Award for scenic design in 2000, and several members of the cast were also nominated for awards that same year.
