Description
A set of three life-sized promotional or museum-quality display figures depicting the legendary comedy team, the Marx Brothers. The collection includes Groucho, Harpo, and Chico Marx, captured in their iconic cinematic personas. The figures are constructed from a molded composite material, likely fiberglass or resin, and are mounted on individual rectangular metal footplates for stability. Groucho is styled in a black frock coat, red necktie, and pinstriped grey trousers, featuring his trademark wire-rimmed glasses and painted-on mustache. Chico is dressed in a tan corduroy jacket, red-and-white checkered shirt, plaid trousers, and a green patterned hat. Harpo is presented in a tan trench coat and colorful plaid tie with a blonde curly wig and a black top hat. The interior of the top hat bears a manufacturer label for Frederic Utz Bruxelles. Harpo is also depicted holding his signature bulb-horn cane. The set is accompanied by a black commemorative display plaque inscribed in white lettering: Groucho, Harpo & Chico Marx Anno 1935. These figures were likely produced for theatrical promotion or a wax museum-style attraction. Identification tags from Matthew Bullock Auction Gallery are present on several components. Approximately 68 x 34 x 19 inches.
Condition: The figures exhibit wear consistent with age and previous display. Several hands are currently detached from the arms, showing visible damage and breakage at the wrist mounting points. One finger is missing from one of the detached hands. The clothing shows general surface wear, including minor staining, dust accumulation, and fraying to the fabric edges. The molded surfaces show minor scuffs. The blonde wig on Harpo and the painted features on all three brothers remain largely intact.
