Description
Collection of 20 Franklin Library leather-bound volumes of classic literature published during the mid-1980s. Titles include Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray, Waverly by Sir Walter Scott, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot, Barchester Towers by Anthony Trollope, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy, Mutiny on the Bounty by Nordhoff and Hall, Tom Jones by Henry Fielding, Paradise Lost by John Milton, Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift, Selected Plays by William Shakespeare, and Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. The bindings are ornately decorated with gilt-stamped designs on the front and back covers, and the spines feature raised bands with gilt titles and ornamentation. All volumes have all edges gilt (AEG) and include integrated ribbon markers. Internal illustrations are featured in several volumes. Largest book 9 1/2″ x 6 1/4″ x 2 1/2″
Condition report:
The leather bindings are well-preserved with bright gilt ornamentation and minimal signs of shelf wear. The gilt on the page edges remains largely intact and reflective. The interiors appear clean with no visible foxing or damage to the text blocks.
