Description
Group of four West African style carved wooden sculptures and masks. Includes a tall Janus-faced sculpture featuring two stylized faces on a shared long neck, a smaller sculpture depicting two back-to-back figures, a small oval mask with pierced slit eyes, and a large crocodile helmet mask. Crocodile mask with an open, toothy maw, prominent ears, and a small human figure crouching on its crown. The base of the helmet mask is pierced with a series of small holes for attachment. Crocodile mask 22 1/2" H x 8 1/2" W x 11 1/2" D. Tall Janus-faced sculpture 18 1/2" H. Small mask 7 3/4" H.

Condition report:
All items exhibit signs of age and use consistent with the medium. Notable vertical stress cracks are visible on the neck of the tall sculpture and running through the small facial mask. There are scattered surface abrasions, small wood losses along edges, and thinning of the dark finish throughout. The metal headband on the tall figure shows oxidation and minor losses to the fabric or fiber backing.
