Description
This lot consists of four Japanese polychrome woodblock prints (nishiki-e) from Utagawa Hiroshige’s series, One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (Meisho Edo Hyakkei), originally published between 1856 and 1858. The vertical oban-size prints depict the following landscapes: Sazaidō at Five Hundred Rakan Temple, Takata Riding Grounds, Benkei Moat at Soto-Sakurada, and Takinogawa in Ōji. Each print displays three characteristic cartouches: a red vertical title cartouche at the upper right reading Meisho Edo Hyakkei, a smaller cartouche containing the individual scene title, and a red signature cartouche at the bottom reading Hiroshige ga. A publisher mark for Uoya Eikichi is visible in the lower-left margin of the prints.
Each sheet: approximately 14 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches.

Condition report:
The prints are in fair antique condition. Significant foxing and staining are present on the reverse of all sheets. The prints exhibit light surface soiling and minor edge wear. One print has a small area of purple adhesive residue at the top margin and a small tear at the upper center edge.
