Description
Southeast Asian carved stone head of Garuda in the Khmer style. The figure is rendered with characteristic features including a prominent hooked beak, wide-set eyes with arched brows, and elongated earlobes fitted with large circular earplugs. Garuda wears an elaborate tiered headdress or crown, intricately carved with floral and bulbous motifs. The reverse of the head shows finely detailed vertical striations representing hair or feathers, secured at the base with a decorative knot. The piece is carved from a single block of granular gray sandstone and is mounted on a modern custom-made display stand with a heavy, square metal base and a single vertical support rod. With stand 25 1/2" H x 12 1/2" W x 11" D. Sculpture head 18" H. Stand base 10 1/4" x 10 1/4".

Condition report:
The stone sculpture displays overall surface weathering and pitting consistent with age and exposure. There are minor chips and abrasions, particularly along the lower edge of the neck and on the protruding elements of the headdress. The carving remains well-defined.
