Description
William Anderson Coffin (American, 1855-1925). Oil on canvas, Tonalist landscape depicting a rural scene at twilight. Signed lower right. Sight: 15 3/4 x 23 5/8 in. Frame: 21 3/8 x 29 1/2 in.
Condition report:
The paint surface exhibits fine craquelure throughout the sky. There is a light layer of surface grime and dust consistent with age. The frame shows several small chips and visible losses to the gilded gesso decoration, particularly along the lower edge where white patches are exposed. The verso of the canvas shows significant darkening and oxidation.
