William Anderson Coffin (American, 1855-1925). Oil on canvas, Tonalist landscape featuring rolling green hills beneath a pale, hazy sky with a crescent moon. Signed lower right. Sight: 29 5/8 x 19 1/2 in. Frame: 32 1/2 x 22 1/2 in.
Condition report:
The painting exhibits significant paint flaking and losses along the bottom margin. A prominent vertical surface scratch or deep paint separation approximately five inches in length is located in the lower central foreground. Fine craquelure is visible throughout the sky. General surface grime is present consistent with age. The brown paper dust cover on the verso is heavily torn and punctured.
