Description
Pair of Chinoiserie style table lamps by Nicholas Haydon. The lamps feature a cast metal base with an antiqued gilt finish, sculpted in the form of a gnarled tree trunk. They are embellished with hand-carved semi-precious stone elements, including carnelian or agate birds and fruit clusters, along with green stone leaves. The lamps are fitted with a tapered, pleated cream fabric shade adorned with metallic gold-tone lace trim at the top and bottom. A carved red stone finial completes the assembly. The base is marked with a brass label inscribed Nicholas Haydon Lamps and Shades 59 West 48th St. New York City. Tested and working. 21″ H x 9″ W x 9″ D. Location: 15A
Condition report:
The gilt finish on the metal base shows overall surface wear and oxidation commensurate with age. Several of the delicate wire-mounted stone decorations are bent or loose, and minor losses to the stone elements are possible. The fabric shade displays light surface soiling and minor age-related discoloration. Tested and working. The brown electrical cord terminates in a non-original plug wrapped in black electrical tape.
