Description
A set of four color offset lithograph posters by American artist Will Barnet (1911-2012) titled The Silent Seasons, published in 1981. The collection consists of the complete seasonal series including Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Each composition features Barnet’s characteristic stylized and graphic figurative style, depicting a woman with long dark hair at a window ledge interacting with a green parrot. Seasonal attributes include bubbles in summer, books and an apple in autumn, a ball of yarn in winter, and a flower with a record player in spring. Each poster features the artist’s printed signature Will Barnet within the upper right of the image area. The lower margins are printed with the text WILL BARNET THE SILENT SEASONS followed by the specific season name in a stylized typeface. Fine print at the extreme bottom edge indicates these were published for the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1981 and printed in France by Nouvelles Images. Each poster measures approximately 44 1/2 x 33 1/2 inches.
Condition report:
The posters are unframed and remain in good overall condition. There are minor handling creases and light curling to the edges and corners, consistent with being stored flat or rolled. The colors are bright and saturated with no evidence of fading, foxing, or staining. The paper is clean and free of tears.
