Description

A trio of silver plated decorative tableware items featuring naturalistic animal and maritime motifs. The lot includes a spoon warmer modeled as a nautilus shell supported by a cast rockwork base with seaweed textures and a small shell detail at the foot. The second item is a footed nut bowl featuring a scalloped radiating shell form rim and a scroll handle surmounted by a cast squirrel figurine holding an acorn. The third item is a novelty vessel shaped as a broken eggshell on a textured nest base with a cast chick figurine perched on the rim, likely an egg cup or salt cellar. The underside is stamped in three rows with the marks L & W S, E.P.B.M., and the number 2776. These marks identify the manufacturer as Lee and Wigfull of Sheffield, England, and the material as electroplated Britannia metal. Largest item 8″ H x 11″ W x 7 1/2″ D. Location: 18D

Condition report:

The nautilus shell spoon warmer exhibits heavy dark tarnish and surface patina with minor light scratches. The squirrel pedestal bowl is in good condition showing only light surface wear and minor tarnish in recessed areas. The chick and egg novelty container shows significant wear and loss to the silver plating, particularly on the interior and higher relief sections of the chick and base where the underlying yellowish metal is exposed.
