Description
After Hippolyte Francois Moreau (French, 1832–1927). Patinated metal sculpture of a young peasant woman. An incised signature Hip. Moreau is located on the base. An applied brass title plate on the front of the base reads LE SOIR Par H. Moreau (Sculptr). On the reverse of the base is a circular stamped seal reading FABRICATION FRANCAISE PARIS MADE IN FRANCE with a central device of a handled vase. 35″ H x 14″ W x 10″ D.
Condition report:
The hollow metal staff held by the figure is split and damaged at the top. There is visible wear and thinning to the patina across the surface, notably on the raised portions of the figure and drapery. Minor nicks are present along the edge of the marble plinth. The piece shows general surface wear and dust accumulation consistent with age.
