Description
Two Art Nouveau Tiffany Style decorative art glass desktop inkwells. The first is a square-form inkwell featuring an acid-etched metal overlay in a grapevine and cluster motif with a verdigris and brown patina. The metal framework is inset with panels of green and white marbled slag glass. It features a hinged, domed lid with a crackled finish and stands on four ball feet. The piece contains a clear glass interior insert embossed with THE DAVIS in the center and PAT. MAR. 19, OCT. 22 ’89, FEB. 1 1898 around the edge. The second item is a rounded pyramidal inkwell crafted from translucent pink-to-red glass with a heavy, mottled gold iridescent finish. It is fitted with a hinged gold-tone metal lid with a leaf-shaped thumbpiece. The underside features a circular polished pontil mark. Square inkwell: 4 x 4 x 4 inches. Location: 15B
Condition report:
Both items are in good condition. The metal overlay inkwell exhibits a natural aged patina and oxidation to the metal surfaces; slag glass panels appear free of cracks. The iridescent glass inkwell shows minor surface wear and light scratching to the base consistent with age. Both hinges are functional.
