Description
A large neoclassical-style glazed porcelain figural group depicting a male charioteer driving a two-horse chariot in the midst of an accident. The dramatic composition features two rearing horses and a detached wheel resting on the textured base amidst the folds of the driver’s drapery. The figure is partially draped in green fabric and wears a band across his chest featuring a gold-painted stylized rectangular symbol. The group is finished in cream and tan glazes with muted green accents and cold-painted details. Metallic gold-tone chain reins connect the horses to the driver’s hands. 14″ H x 16 1/2″ W x 8″ D. Condition report:
The leading horse\'s front leg is broken at the upper joint; the detached fragment is present. The second horse\'s raised front hoof has a small chip at the tip. Extensive flaking and loss to the green glaze is present along the bottom edges and corners of the base. The gold-tone chain reins are tangled and partially detached. Light surface scuffs and minor wear are visible throughout the glaze.
