Description
An Alfonso Marina Consola Altamira console table designed in the form of a classical demi-lune card table. Manufactured in Mexico City and dated 2003, this Neoclassical Revival piece is constructed with highly figured wood veneers, primarily mahogany, featuring a hinged folding top with a radiating book-matched grain pattern. The top is bordered by multiple bands of intricate multi-wood marquetry, including geometric brickwork and stylized foliate motifs. The apron is deeply scalloped and shaped, accented with contrasting light and dark wood stringing that follows the complex curves. The table is supported by four square tapered legs, each face featuring inlaid bellflower trails and terminating in small block feet. The reverse of the frame retains a printed paper manufacturer’s label with the Alfonso Marina square AM monogram and Spanish text. The label includes handwritten inscriptions identifying the model as Consola Altamira, lot number 684/03, and the date September 14, 2003. A small silver-toned metal plate stamped HECHO EN MEXICO with a stylized eagle head logo is affixed to the rear leg. 35.5 inches H x 48.5 inches W x 23.5 inches D. Condition report:
The table is in very good to excellent overall condition. Minor surface scratches and faint scuffs are visible on the top and legs, consistent with light residential use. The marquetry and stringing remain intact, and the finish retains a high luster. Light dust and lint are present in the crevices of the scalloped apron.
