Description
This is a large Neoclassical revival style wall mirror of oval form. The frame is constructed of wood and composition with a gilded finish over a red bole base. The design features an elaborate crest with a central floral and foliate urn flanked by scrolling acanthus leaves. The main frame is accented with beaded and rope-twist moldings. A segmented border surrounds the central oval mirror plate, alternating between trapezoidal mirror sections and panels painted light green with gilded floral scrollwork. The mirror consists of a central oval plate and an outer ring of smaller, segmented plates. 44″ H x 35 1/4″ W x 1 1/2″ D. This lot is located offsite in Rumson, New Jersey and will be available for PICKUP ONLY. Condition report:
The mirror is in good antique condition with visible signs of wear consistent with age. The gilded surface displays numerous areas of cracking, flaking, and small chips, particularly on the raised decorative elements, exposing the reddish-brown bole underneath. The green-painted panels exhibit a fine, overall craquelure. The mirror plates show scattered foxing and minor silvering loss.
