A two-piece Louis XVI style neoclassical revival seating set, configured as a duchesse brisee. The set comprises a wide bergere armchair of marquise proportions and a matching rectangular bench designed to be joined as a chaise longue. The carved wooden frames feature a distressed cream-painted and parcel-gilt finish. The armchair features padded armrests on curved, recessed supports and a deep loose-cushion seat. The matching bench includes a low padded back at one end to align with the chair frame. The set is upholstered in a pink silk-style damask featuring a repeating neoclassical medallion and floral motif, finished with individual brass-headed upholstery tacks. Armchair: 37 in. H x 42 in. W x 42 in. D. Seat Height: 16 in. This lot is located offsite in Rumson, New Jersey and will be available for PICKUP ONLY. Specific pickup instructions including the address and available pickup dates and times will be provided shortly after the auction.

Condition report:

The set is in good overall condition. The painted and gilded finish exhibits intentional distressing with a crackle-glaze effect. Minor fraying and wear are visible on the fabric piping of the loose back cushion. There is light surface soiling and subtle shadows present on the upholstery of the bench seat. The frame and joinery are structurally sound.
