Description
A circular porcelain silent butler featuring a domed hinged lid and a long tapering porcelain handle. The exterior is decorated with polychrome hand-painted vignettes depicting courting couples in pastoral settings. These scenes are bordered by heavy gilding and separated by light blue ground panels with gold floral motifs. The bowl and lid are fitted with cast and chased gilt-metal mounts. The interior of the bowl is finished in plain white glazed porcelain. The underside of the base features an underglaze blue beehive mark with a single dot centered above and the handwritten blue numbers 7578. 4″ H x 10″ L x 6 1/2″ W. Location: 19B
Condition report:
The lid is detached from the body. There is a small chip to the porcelain and gilding on the edge of the lid. Minor rubbing to the gilding is present on high points, particularly along the handle and the lid rim. Four circular felt pads are attached to the unglazed foot rim. The metal hinge is functional and the handle is securely attached.
