Description
This pair of matching table lamps features hand-painted porcelain figures in the 18th-century style. One lamp depicts a seated man in a floral decorated waistcoat and lavender breeches, while the other depicts a seated woman holding a basket of roses. The figures are positioned within an ornate metal framework composed of scrolled vines, leaves, and applied polychrome porcelain roses. The porcelain figures bear a blue underglaze mark of a five-pointed crown over a capital N. The circular gilt metal bases are impressed Made in France on the underside. The set is topped with flared rectangular fabric shades with braided trim, bearing labels for Canterbury of Brooklyn, New York. The lamps are equipped with brown plastic-coated cords and two-prong plugs. 17″ H x 8″ shade diameter.

Condition report:
The set shows visible signs of age and wear. Most notably, the male figure is missing its left arm from the elbow down. There are several small chips and losses to the delicate petals of the applied porcelain flowers. The metal components show general surface wear, minor oxidation, and thinning of the gilt finish. One fabric shade has a small vertical brown stain on the exterior. Both lamps are in working condition.
