Lot 155:
Description
This Neoclassical style pier mirror features a hand-carved wood frame with a gilt finish over gesso, produced by artisan Anthony Amato. The design includes a stepped cornice top situated above a decorative frieze with a central oval medallion flanked by acanthus scrolls and floral rosettes. The vertical stiles are ornamented with relief-carved leaf and husk drops, while the bottom rail features a central shell motif with foliate scrolls. The reverse of the frame bears a manufacturer stamp. The mirror plate is secured to a wood back panel with metal clips and features two D-ring hanging fixtures. 41.5″ H x 29.5″ W x 2″ D.
Condition report:
The frame is in overall fair to good condition. There are several visible losses to the gilding and gesso finish, particularly along the top edge of the cornice, on the central frieze ornamentation, and at the bottom corners, exposing the white substrate underneath. The gilt finish shows general surface wear and rubbing consistent with age and use. The mirror plate appears to be in good condition with no significant foxing or silvering loss visible.
