Description
A pair of two vintage framed intaglio prints by Reinhold H. Palenske (American, 1884–1954), featuring talio-chrome reproductions of the artist’s drypoint etchings. The first work, titled Before the Alcan Highway-, depicts a dog sled team traversing a snowy mountain pass. The second work, titled And He Just Loves Horses, illustrates a dynamic Western scene of a cowboy being thrown from a bucking horse. Both prints exhibit the fine line work and burr characteristic of the drypoint style and feature distinct rectangular plate marks. Each work is signed in the plate at the lower right as R.H. Palenske. The lower left of each print bears the publisher’s mark B&B for Brown & Bigelow, with the cowboy scene including the additional mark USA. The prints are housed in separate wooden frames behind glass with neutral mats.
Frame: 18 x 16 inches.
Location: Bin 30
Condition report:
Both prints exhibit noticeable age-related toning to the paper and mats. Scattered small foxing spots are visible, particularly in the lower margin of the cowboy scene. The wooden frames show minor surface scuffs and nicks consistent with age and handling.
