Description

A pair of Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) pewter ewers manufactured by the German firm Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF), dating to approximately 1890 to 1910. Each ewer features a tall, tapering four-sided body that flares to a square base. The exterior is decorated with embossed Jugendstil motifs, including sinuous whiplash lines, stylized roots, organic foliage, and clusters of berries at the corners of the base. The pitchers include split-ribbed organic handles and hinged lids with decorative scrolling openwork finials. The underside of each base bears the stamped manufacturer mark WMFB, indicating Britannia metal, along with the as mark for an antique silver finish and factory codes 1/0 and 10. 14.25″ H x 4.75″ W x 4.75″ D.

Condition report:

The pair is in good antique condition with visible surface oxidation and minor scratching consistent with age and use. There is typical wear to the antique silver finish on high points. The hinges are functional, though one thumbpiece displays a small gap at the joint while remaining attached.
