September Uncurated: Art, Furnishings, and Estate Discoveries
Lot 307:
Description
A large studio stoneware vase created in the Korean Buncheong style. The vessel features a globular form with a short neck and a flared, everted rim. The exterior is decorated with dynamic sgraffito scroll and cloud-like patterns. These motifs are rendered by carving through a brownish-ochre glaze to reveal a lighter, cream-colored clay or slip body. The surface exhibits a rustic finish with intentional pitting, pinholing, and dark iron oxide spots. The unglazed underside of the base features an impressed circular seal mark containing a stylized monogram. 12″ H x 9.5″ W. Foot diameter: 5 in.
Location: 18B
Condition report:
The vase is in very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, or visible repairs. The surface shows significant pitting and glaze irregularities which are intentional characteristics of the Buncheong style.
