Description
Two original Japanese woodblock prints on paper in the oban format. The first print is from the collaborative series Ogura Nazorae Hyakunin Isshu (Ogura Imitations of the One Hundred Poets) and features the illustration for Poem 60 by Koshikibu no Naishi. It is signed Hiroshige ga and bears a carver mark for Hori Fusajiro. The second print is a kabuki actor portrait by Utagawa Kunisada, signed as Toyokuni ga within a red toshidama seal. Larger print 14 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches.
Condition report:
Both prints show signs of age including moderate toning and scattered foxing across the sheets. There are visible handling creases and minor staining. The Hiroshige print has a small loss at the lower left corner and wear along the edges. The Kunisada print appears to be trimmed into the margins. The verso of both prints shows light foxing and remains of adhesive along the right edges from previous mounting.
