Description
Continental School oil on canvas portrait of a man, signed illegibly in the center left. The painting is housed in an ornate gilded wood frame decorated with a repeating foliate and scroll relief pattern. The verso reveals the canvas is stretched on a modern wooden frame and secured with staples. Sight: 20 x 15 in. Frame: 26 x 22 in.

Condition report:
The painting is in fair condition. The surface displays significant accumulated dirt and darkened varnish across the composition. Several prominent vertical and diagonal scratches and abrasions are visible, particularly along the right side and lower portion of the canvas, which expose the white underlying ground. The gilded frame shows minor surface cracking, scattered small losses to the gilding, and evidence of rubbing along the outer edges.
