Description
Attributed to Louis Henri Deschamps (French, 1846-1902). This oil painting on canvas depicts a genre scene set within a wine cellar. The composition features two figures seated at a barrel-top table: a monk in a white habit and an older man in dark attire holding a glass of red liquid. The background is filled with several large wooden wine casks. The work is housed in an ornate composite frame featuring a gilt foliate-patterned outer molding, a black-painted cove, and a linen-covered inner liner. Signed Deschamps lower left. Sight: 23 1/2 x 19 1/4 in. Frame: 33 1/2 x 29 1/2 in.
