Anne-Marie Esprit (1866-1926) A regional genre scene set in Brittany, featuring women and children in traditional dress gathered around a stone fountain or holy well. The painting is signed A M ESPRIT in dark red paint in the lower left corner. It is presented in a heavily decorated gilt-finished frame with scrolling foliate and shell motifs, featuring a brass nameplate reading A. M. ESPRIT 1866-1926. The reverse reveals the canvas on a wooden stretcher with a central cross-brace, bearing a stamped number 25 and a yellow circular sticker with the number 33. Sight: 25 x 31 inches. Overall: 33 x 34 x 2 inches.

Condition report:

The painting shows a stable layer of fine craquelure throughout the paint surface. There is visible surface dirt and accumulated dust across the work. Small white surface spatters or accretions are present in the lower right corner area. The ornate gilt frame exhibits minor age-related wear and small chips to the finish.
