Description

This two-piece matching set features a Chippendale style armchair and a rectangular footstool, both upholstered in a blue and light-blue vertical striped satin damask. The armchair is designed with a shaped camel-style back and rolled arms featuring carved foliate and floral scrolled terminals. The dark-stained wood frame includes front cabriole legs decorated with carved acanthus leaves at the knees and ball-and-claw feet, while the rear legs are simple splayed cabriole forms. The lower front rail is accented with a gadrooned carved molding. The chair includes a loose seat cushion. The matching footstool features a rectangular upholstered top and stands on four turned legs that differ in style from the chair legs. The underside of the stool reveals modern 20th-century construction with corner blocks and screw fasteners. Armchair: 34″ H x 36″ W x 36″ D. Stool: 12.5″ H.

Condition report:

The wood frames show scattered scuffs, nicks, and scratches consistent with age and use. The footstool exhibits significant finish loss and heavy scuffing along the apron and lower legs. The upholstery on both pieces is generally intact but shows light surface soiling and minor wear, particularly on the seat cushion and the edges of the stool.
