Description
A pair of tapered ovoid porcelain vases featuring short, narrow necks and gilded rims. These Sevres-style vases are decorated with a deep cobalt blue ground and elaborate raised gilded scrollwork and foliate accents. Each vase displays a central hand-painted cartouche depicting a courting couple in 18th-century Rococo-style attire within a garden landscape. The reverse of each vase is ornamented with a gilded floral spray. The painted scenes are signed Eug Carel at the lower right. Marked on the underside of the base. 9 1/2″ H x 4″ W x 4″ D.

Condition report:
The vases exhibit visible wear and thinning to the gilding on the top rims and along portions of the raised scrollwork. One vase shows a patch of cloudiness or scuffing on the cobalt blue glaze near the base. There are minor surface scratches and small points of kiln dust and pitting consistent with age and manufacture. No cracks, chips, or repairs are visible.
