Description
Wendy Benchley (American, b. 1941). Color photographs, production of the film Jaws, 1974. These candid behind-the-scenes images were captured on location at Martha’s Vineyard during the principal photography of the 1975 Universal Pictures film. Subjects include the mechanical shark Bruce on a wooden floating platform, crew members at hydraulic control stations, and off-camera moments featuring director Steven Spielberg and actor Roy Scheider in costume as Chief Martin Brody. Several images document location sets including the Amity Island Arcade and various production support vehicles. The photographs are accompanied by a handwritten provenance note from Wendy. 3 1/2" H x 5" W.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
Excellent vintage condition. The prints exhibit a warm color shift toward yellow and red tones characteristic of mid-1970s color film processing. Surfaces show minimal wear with no significant creases, tears, or staining. The handwritten provenance note is well-preserved.
