Description
A collection of 27 production-made glass prop ampules produced for the 1977 film The Deep. Each small glass vessel is filled with an orange liquid composed of water, food coloring, and a preservative. The lower body of each ampule is marked with a black graphic depicting a stylized serifed letter R pierced by a vertical sword-like line. The neck of each ampule features a single blue ring. The props are housed in their original corrugated cardboard shipping and storage box from the manufacturer. The box features a typed white adhesive label identifying the contents as stage props for filmmaking only and not for drug use, citing a purchase order date of April 27, 1976. Ampules: 2 7/8" H x 5/8" diameter.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
The glass ampules remain in good production-used condition with the liquid contents sealed inside. Minor sediment is visible at the bottom of the liquid in several units. The original cardboard storage box shows heavy wear, including structural crushing, edge tearing, surface staining, and overall toning consistent with age and location use. The internal cardboard dividers are intact but show light deformation.
