Description
Peter Benchley (American, 1940-2006). 2 German-language hardcover thriller novels published by Ullstein in Berlin and Frankfurt. The collection includes the titles Beast: Schrecken der Tiefe and Freibeuter des Todes, the latter being a translation of the 1979 novel The Island. Beast is a 1992 edition translated by Sabine Schmidt from the 1991 American original. Freibeuter des Todes is a translation by Jürgen Abel. Both volumes were printed in Austria by Wiener Verlag in Himberg. Marked on the title and copyright pages Ullstein. 8 1/2″ H x 5 3/8″ W x 1 1/4″ D.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
Both volumes are in very good condition. The pictorial dust jackets show minor shelf wear and light rubbing to the glossy laminate surfaces. There is faint edge wear at the corners and spine ends of the cloth bindings. The internal pages are crisp and free of signatures, bookplates, or markings.
