Description
Diving crew jacket from the personal collection of author and marine conservation advocate Peter Benchley. Marked "African Shark Diving, Dyer Island, Gansbaai – South Africa" and "Crew." The vintage tricolor sailing-style garment is constructed of technical fabric and features a high navy fleece-lined collar, front zipper closure protected by a Velcro storm flap, and two zippered waist pockets. The interior is finished with a navy blue lining featuring a repeating anchor motif. Tagged Musto size XL. The jacket reflects Benchley’s longstanding involvement in shark research, diving, photography, film, and ocean conservation. Gansbaai, located near Dyer Island on South Africa’s Western Cape, is internationally recognized for its population of Great White sharks and its shark-diving operations.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
The jacket shows signs of moderate wear and discoloration consistent with field use. Notable brown staining and spotting are visible on the white fabric sections of the sleeves and upper back. The white Velcro wrist adjustment tabs exhibit yellowing. General creasing and fabric wear are present throughout.
