Description
Two antique hand-forged oxidized iron relic tools. The items include a pick-style tool head and a large metal spike. The tool head is designed with a wide, flaring blade on one side and a tapering, pointed pick on the opposite side. It features a central oval eye for handle mounting, with a small lateral metal protrusion extending from the side of the eye area. The second item is a long, slender metal rod with a bulbous, irregularly shaped head, tapering toward a blunted base. Both objects are heavily oxidized with deep pitting throughout the forged surfaces. 11" L x 3 1/2" W x 1 1/2" D and 11" L x 3/4" W.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
Both items are in as-found relic condition. The surfaces exhibit advanced, heavy oxidation and deep pitting. The tool head lacks its original wooden handle, and the interior of the eye is filled with corrosion products. The spike features a blunted and uneven tip likely due to historical use or subsequent corrosion.
