The Edith Blake photographs (Lots 129 – 131)

Edith Blake (1925–2023) wrote and took pictures for the Vineyard Gazette and had insider access to the JAWS set throughout the summer of 1974. Her photographs, long circulated as anonymous production stills, are credited to her here. They are in color, with the warm patina of fifty years.

From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.

Proceeds from the Peter Benchley Collection will benefit five ocean conservation organizations: Peter Benchley Ocean Awards, WildAid, Beneath the Waves, Blue Frontier and Environmental Defense Fund.

Condition report:

The photograph shows a significant cyan color shift consistent with the aging of vintage photographic pigments. The paper displays visible rippling and waviness beneath the glass. The black metal frame has minor surface scuffs, particularly at the corners. There is light surface dust present on the glass.
