The Peter Benchley Collection: Jaws, A Life of Writing, A Legacy of Ocean Conservation.
Lot 148:
Description
Peter Benchley (American, 1940-2006). Black felt-tip pen on paper, shark and Peter Benchley’s signature. Includes a separate handwritten note by Wendy Benchley detailing its provenance as being found in the author’s desk, and one of the last three signatures in their collection. The autograph is housed in a clear acrylic tabletop frame with a blue interior border and backing. Sight: 8 x 10 in.
JAWS changed Peter’s life forever, and he became known for signing his name with a quick shark sketch. Here are the signature and the shark on their own, not in a book, ready to frame.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Proceeds from the Peter Benchley Collection will benefit five ocean conservation organizations: Peter Benchley Ocean Awards, WildAid, Beneath the Waves, Blue Frontier and Environmental Defense Fund.
