A collection of 24 vintage photographs documenting the production and premiere of the 1977 film The Deep. The group includes black-and-white images from the premiere featuring Peter Benchley with producer Peter Guber and director Peter Yates. Production and behind-the-scenes photographs include color and black-and-white stills of cast members Jacqueline Bisset, Nick Nolte, and Robert Shaw on set and on deck. Several photographs capture technical aspects of filming, including underwater cinematography by Al Giddings and Stan Waterman, the filming of the moray eel special effects prop, and a crew group photo at the World’s Largest Underwater Set. Largest: 8″ x 12″.

From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.

Condition report:

The photographs are in stable vintage condition. Minor edge wear and corner bumping are visible across the group. Light surface handling marks and silvering consistent with age are present on some black-and-white prints. Several color photographs exhibit mild color shifting toward magenta tones, typical for photographic paper of the late 1970s. No significant tears or creases are noted.
