Description

Assortment of ancient bronze projectile points and blades, primarily consistent with Luristan and Near Eastern typological forms from the Late Bronze to Early Iron Age. The collection features a diverse range of cast bronze shapes, including leaf-shaped, lanceolate, and trilobate arrowheads, along with larger spearheads. Several examples exhibit elongated tangs designed for insertion into wooden shafts, while others feature barbed bases or perforated tangs for pin attachment. Construction is characterized by central medial ridges and flat-section blades. The metal surfaces display heavy mineralization and a natural variegated patina ranging from deep forest green to bright turquoise, with areas of reddish-brown oxidation and localized surface pitting throughout the group. Unsigned.

From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.

The collection is in excavated condition consistent with age and long-term burial. Observable wear includes blunted tips, irregular losses to the edges, and varying degrees of encrustation across all pieces. Several examples show bent or distorted tangs. Some blades exhibit surface pitting and stable oxidation.
