The hinged lid opens to a twin-compartment interior, each fitted with a removable burl-veneered lid topped with a brass ring pull. The underside of the main lid is lined with faded red paper. 4 1/2" H x 7 5/8" W x 4 1/2" D.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
The exterior veneer shows significant surface checking and several cracks, most notably across the top lid. There are visible losses to the veneer at the corners and along the lower edges. One interior lid is detached and shows wood loss at the corner. The interior compartments exhibit extensive wear with staining and loss of original lining material to the walls. The red paper lining on the lid interior is faded, soiled, and peeling at the edges. Brass hardware shows moderate oxidation and patina consistent with age. The green felt on the base shows surface wear and lint.
