Description

Peter Benchley’s Lenox porcelain award bowl, commemorating the Boy Scout Tennis event held on June 8, 1975. The vessel is constructed of cream-toned porcelain in a footed tazza form. It features a hand-applied gold-gilded rim with a secondary parallel line detail. The fluted pedestal base is heavily gilded, transitioning to a smooth circular foot with further gold banding. The front face bears a transfer-printed inscription in gold-toned serif lettering reading Peter Benchley / Boy Scout Tennis / June 8, 1975. The interior is finished with a smooth, clear glaze. 4 1/2" H x 7 3/8" diameter.

From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.

Condition report:

The bowl is in good condition with consistent luster to the gilding. There is a single small dark speck of kiln-related discoloration on the exterior porcelain to the right of the inscription. Minor shelf wear is visible on the unglazed foot ring, and the backstamp shows very slight fading. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
