Description
Akubra Snowy River model outback-style hat formerly owned by author Peter Benchley. The hat is fashioned from fawn-colored pure fur felt in a size 60. It features a classic pinched crown and a wide, downturned brim. A decorative dark brown leather band encircles the crown, detailed with an embossed basketweave pattern and a small metal brand badge. A multicolored feather plume in shades of red, black, and yellow is tucked into the side of the hat band. The interior is finished with a dark brown leather sweatband. Marked in the crown Akubra and on the sweatband Snowy River. 4 1/2" H x 13 5/8" W x 14 5/8" L.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
The fur felt shows light surface mottling and faint spotting across the crown and brim. The interior leather sweatband exhibits moderate wear and perspiration staining. The decorative feather plume has minor fraying and separation at the tips. General light wear is present throughout, consistent with use.
