Description
Akubra Snowy River outback hat constructed from tan Imperial Quality pure fur felt. The hat features a pinched crown and a wide, slightly upturned brim. A brown braided leather band with a decorative knot and two trailing ends encircles the base of the crown. A small decorative cluster of green and yellow feathers is secured behind the knot. The interior is finished with a white satin lining and a dark brown leather sweatband with gold-stamped branding. Marked on the lining and the sweatband Akubra. Stamped on the sweatband Snowy River and Made Expressly for Outback Trading Co PA. 4 1/2" H x 13 1/2" W x 14 1/2" L.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
Clean fur felt maintaining its structural shape. The interior lining and leather sweatband show very little evidence of wear. Minor fraying is present at the tips of the decorative braided band trailing ends. The feather accessory is intact and well-preserved.
