Description
Meiji period Japanese bronze vase featuring an elongated cylindrical neck and a globular body. The object is finished with a dark brown hand-applied patina in the archaic style typical of late nineteenth-century metalwork. The central frieze displays multiple medallions containing high-relief mythical beasts, including dragons and phoenixes, against a textured background. The neck and shoulder are cast as separate components, joined at a visible horizontal seam fastened by a brass screw. Appears unsigned. 20 1/2″ H.
Location: 10A
Condition report:
Good antique condition. Surface shows scattered light scratches and scuffs, particularly on the smooth neck. A small gap and exposed brass screw are present at the neck seam. Minor green verdigris oxidation is visible within the recessed decorative bands and on the underside of the base. General rubbing to the patina reveals the lighter alloy beneath at high points.
